Public Health Services

Public health improves our quality of life, helps us to thrive, reduces human suffering from diseases and saves money in the long run. At Accra Medical Centre, we offer public health education to improve quality of life and vaccinations to avoid the spread of diseases.

Vaccinations programme include:

Core Public Health Vaccinations:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Protects against three common childhood viruses.
  • DTaP / Tdap / Td: Protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough).
  • Polio (IPV): Essential for preventing poliomyelitis.
  • Hepatitis A & B: Protects against liver infections.
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus): Prevents various cancers and genital warts.
  • Influenza (Flu): Annual vaccine recommended for protection against circulating strains.
  • COVID-19: Protects against severe disease from SARS-CoV-2.
  • Varicella (Chickenpox): Protects against the varicella-zoster virus.
  • Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b): Protects against meningitis and other bacterial infections.
  • Pneumococcal Conjugate (PCV) / Polysaccharide (PPSV23): Prevents infections like pneumonia.
  • Rotavirus: Protects infants from severe diarrhea.
  • Meningococcal Conjugate (ACWY) / Meningococcal B: Protects against bacterial meningitis.
  • RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus): Protects older adults and infants.
  • Shingles (Herpes Zoster): Recommended for older adults.

Additional and Specialized Vaccines

  • BCG (Bacillus Calmette–Guérin): Tuberculosis protection (often given in high-incidence areas).
  • Travel Vaccines: Yellow fever, typhoid, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, cholera, and tick-borne encephalitis.
  • Others: Dengue, Monkeypox.
Routine Child/Adult Focus
  • Children: 6-in-1 vaccine (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hib, Polio, Hep B), Rotavirus, PCV, MMR, Meningococcal.
  • Adults: Tdap/Td, Flu, COVID-19, Shingles, Pneumococcal.
